Waterloo Regional Police say they have now confirmed that the human remains discovered in Kitchener last week belong to a 51-year-old Kate Lynn Reid who disappeared at the end of January.

Homicide detectives were alerted to the grim discovery on Friday shortly before 4 p.m. The remains were found at 10 Burn Place, not far from Reid’s Kitchener home.

Police previously said they believe Reid was murdered but officers will not be releasing details of her death in an effort to protect “the integrity of the ongoing investigation,” Waterloo Regional Police said in a news release issued Wednesday.

According to investigators, the post-mortem examination confirms that Reid was the victim of homicide.

Police have charged 61-year-old Rayburn McColl, of Kitchener, with second degree murder and committing an indignity to a dead body in connection with the case. McColl is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Kitchener today.

Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call police at 519-653-7700, ext. 8768 of Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-900-222-8477.
