A major downtown intersection will be closed to traffic for the next five days as the TTC completes track replacement work.

The intersection of Bay and Richmond Streets is scheduled to be closed from 6 a.m. today until 6 a.m. on Tuesday due to the planned work.

During the closure, westbound traffic on Richmond Street will be forced to divert at Yonge Street while southbound traffic on Bay Street will be diverted at Queen Street West and northbound traffic on Bay Street will be diverted at Adelaide Street West.

In order to minimize the length of the closure, the city says that construction hours have been extended to include “some 24/7 work,” though the most disrupted activity will take place before 11 p.m. each night.

Traffic-signal timing on parallel routes is also being adjusted to improve traffic flow, the city says.

This is the third major intersection to be closed for TTC track replacement work in recent months.

The intersection of College and Bathurst Street was closed from June 20 to July 12 and the intersection of College Street and Lansdowne Avenue was closed from July 25 to August 8.
