A man has been taken into custody after he drove past a police barricade on Highway 401 near Mississauga and then fell out of his van while it was still rolling.

The westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed at Mavis Road for a transport truck rollover when the man drove past the initial police barricade at around 5:30 a.m. and pulled up alongside several emergency vehicles.

At that point, CP24’s cameras captured a police officer running up to the vehicle to stop the van and speak with the man. After a few seconds, though, the vehicle lurched forward and the man fell out of the driver’s side door before it slowly rolled into a nearby ditch.

The man was then tackled to the ground by several officers.

The man has since been charged with careless driving and driving on a closed highway, according to police.

The westbound lanes of Highway 401 reopened at Mavis Road at around 8:15 a.m.

The initial accident occurred at around 1 a.m. after the transport truck drifted out of its lane, collided with a minivan and rolled onto its side.

Police say the driver of the transport truck suffered minor injuries and will be charged with careless driving. The occupants of the minivan were not injured in the collision.
