A 35-year-old man is facing a manslaughter charge after the victim of a street assault died in hospital.

The upgraded charge stems from an alleged assault on April 14 in the Corso Italia area.

Police said 54-year-old Frank Colucci was assaulted on the sidewalk outside a St. Clair Avenue West café near Dufferin Street around 5:45 p.m.

Colucci was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after the assault and was placed on life support.

A suspect in the attack was arrested the day of the incident and charged with aggravated assault.

Investigators said the suspect and Colucci knew each other, but would not elaborate on a possible motive.

Colucci died in hospital on April 17, police said.

Homicide investigators have since taken over the case.

Adam Disalle of Toronto is now facing an upgraded charge of manslaughter.

He was scheduled to make an appearance in court on April 20.
