Police in Halton Region have charged two men after they found a 150-pound stash of marijuana in recent raids.

According to police, the investigation, which began in the spring, focused on the trafficking of large amounts of marijuana in the Halton and Peel regions.

The investigation ultimately led to the execution of five search warrants in Milton, Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga last week.

As a result of the searches, police seized a total of 150 pounds of marijuana, as well as 1.2 pounds of hashish, two cars, three prohibited weapons, and some $25,000 in cash.

Investigators estimate the street-level value of the marijuana to between $480,000 and $680,000, depending on size of the quantity sold. The value of the hashish is pegged at approximately $8,000.

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the searches.

Julian Domenico Porretta, 29, of Milton, was arrested on June 25 and charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He has been remanded into custody pending a bail hearing Monday in Milton.

On June 26, 28-year-old Mississauga resident Jason Matthew Amaral was arrested and charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking and three counts of unauthorized possession of weapons.

He was scheduled to appear in court Sunday.
