Halton Regional Police say one officer was cut and another was bitten during an altercation in Burlington on Thursday afternoon.

Staff Sgt. Gerard Kelly said officers were called to a townhouse on Plains Road East, south of the QEW at 4:23 p.m. Thursday, for a report of an altercation involving someone with a knife.

Police responded to the scene and were immediately confronted by a man with a knife.

A male suspect was tasered by police and later taken to hospital. A brother of the suspect suffered minor injuries during the struggle.

One officer was pushed to the ground and cut on the head, and another was bitten on the arm.

The suspect, a 22-year-old Burlington man, was taken into custody and is being held for a psychiatric assessment, police said.
