Durham Regional Police shut down a section of King Street East in Oshawa for more than an hour Wednesday afternoon after a man was seen brandishing a handgun in a nearby apartment building.

Police said the suspect threatened another man in his building with the gun. Police shut down the street, and tactical officers assisted by the police service’s helicopter searched the building and surrounding area.

The suspect was not found during the search, but was contacted by them and later surrendered to police.

Investigators believe the gun used to threaten a neighbor was a starter’s pistol. Police said they recovered several air pistols and an air rifle owned by the suspect.

Bryce Bryant, 18 of Oshawa faces charges of possession of weapons dangerous, use imitation firearm in commission of an offence, threatening death and carrying a concealed weapon.
