Numerous streets in downtown and around Toronto’s lake front will be closed Friday as the Pan Am Games torch relay makes its way back to where it began, and the event officially kicks off Friday night.

The torch will make its way from Pearson International Airport to Union Station via the Union Pearson Express train Friday morning and make stops at several “celebration sites”:

- Union Station, Station Street, from 9:51 a.m. to 10:06 a.m.
- Osgoode Hall, 130 Queen Street West, from 10:17 a.m. to 10:23 a.m.
- Sick Kids Hospital, 555 University Avenue, 10:32 a.m. to 11:02 a.m.
- CIBC Commerce Court, 26 King Street West, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
- Jack Layton Ferry Terminal, 9 Queen's Quay West, at 12:28 p.m.
- Toronto Island Park, from 1:05 p.m. to 1:10 p.m.
- Royal Canadian Yacht Club, from 1:25 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Canada Park, from 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

As a result, rolling single-lane road closures will be in effect along the following streets Friday afternoon:

- northbound University Avenue to College Street
- westbound College Street to Spadina Road
- southbound Spadina Road to King Street
- eastbound King Street from Spadina Road to Jordan Street
- southbound Yonge Street from Melinda Street to Queen's Quay West

Starting at 1 p.m., police say they will begin closing streets in the area around the Pan Am Games opening ceremony at the Rogers Centre.

Front Street will be closed from Blue Jays Way to Simcoe Street between 1 p.m. and 12 a.m.

From 3 p.m. to midnight, Bremner Boulevard from the Metro Toronto Convention Centre driveway to Van De Water Crescent will be closed to vehicles. Also, the northbound lanes of Rees Street, from Lakeshore to Bremner Bouelvards will close.

Starting at 5:45 p.m., two sections of Front Street, from Wellington to Cherry and John streets and between John and Parliament streets, will be closed to vehicles. John Street will be closed between Wellington and Front streets. Parliament Street will shut down between Front Street and Lakeshore Boulevard. Cherry Street will be closed between Front and Villiers streets. Villiers Street will be shut between Cherry Street and the Don Roadway.

Police say a large number of officers will be in the area to direct traffic and no business owner or resident will be kept from accessing their surroundings.

To prepare for the Pan Am Games' triathlon races this weekend, Lakeshore Boulevard between Ontario Place parking lot and British Columbia Drive will close tonight at 10 p.m.
