Police have taken the unusual step of issuing a public appeal in Somali as they continue to investigate the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man in the city’s Richview neighhbourhood three weeks ago.

Mohamed Omer, of Toronto, was found with gunshot wounds in a rented Range Rover SUV that crashed into a home on Windsor Road in the early morning hours of Oct. 24, following a report of shots fired nearby in the Dixon Road and Kipling Avenue area.

In the English version of the press release that was sent out on Wednesday morning, police said that they are “appealing to the community, especially the Somali community and the Dixon Road community, to come forward with information” that will help them solve Omer’s murder.

So far police have not released any information about possible suspects, other than the fact that two males were seen running from the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (416) 808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (416) 222-TIPS (8477).
