Homicide detectives are investigating after a woman in her mid-20s was found dead early Saturday morning.

Officers responding to a domestic incident call arrived at the scene near Martin Grove Road and Richgrove Drive at around 7 a.m.

The woman’s body was then found nearby a short time later.

The cause of death is not known, but police say the woman was suffering from “obvious signs of trauma.”

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Very quickly upon arriving officers discovered evidence of a struggle that had taken place and immediately afterwards they located the deceased body of a female victim just up the roadway on the boulevard,” Insp. Tim Crone told reporters at the scene Saturday afternoon. “We are still very early in the investigation and there is a lot of different information we are processing as we speak.”

According to Crone, police have taken a “person of interest” into custody in connection with the case.

The relationship between the man and the victim is not known.

“We can’t comment on that right now,” Crone said. “We are still dealing with the individual and trying to piece together the circumstances of what led up to what happened today.”

As part of their investigations officers are also present at three other scenes, including a gas station in Mississauga where the person of interest was arrested.

The victim has not been formally identified, but a woman at the scene who identified herself as the victim's aunt said she was a 27-year-old mother of two.

"She is a very good girl who respected everybody in this world," Rosemond Nisah told CTV News as she fought back tears. "Its too bad, too bad, too bad, too bad."
