Police in York Region are alerting the public following the release of a “high-risk offender” into Richmond Hill.

In a release issued Friday afternoon, police said that 21-year-old Thinath Ganendralingam was recently released after serving a seven-month sentence for cruelty to animals and breach of probation.

He was released into the Oak Ridges area.

Ganendralingam “poses a risk to vulnerable members of our community and to animals,” police said.

Under the terms of his probation, he is prohibited from being in the presence of anyone under the age of 16 unless accompanied by another adult. He is also prohibited from owning or having custody of any animal or bird, or from living in a residence that has either.

He is currently under strict supervision, and police said that his activities would continue to be monitored.

Police are asking the public to report any suspicious activity.

Ganendralingam is described as brown, slender with a medium build, five foot five, with straight black hair, brown eyes, and a moustache. His left ear is pierced, and he has a scar on his left cheek, police said.
