Toronto police are kicking off a week-long pedestrian safety campaign today as March Break begins for students across the city.

During the campaign titled ‘March Break – March Safe’ officers will be on the lookout for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians who commit violations that may jeopardize pedestrian safety, with particular attention being paid to intersection-related offences and jaywalking.

According to police, the campaign is being held to raise awareness about the high number of traffic fatalities involving pedestrians.

So far in 2015 about 71 per cent of all traffic fatalities have involved pedestrians, which is much higher than the average of 50 to 60 per cent.
