Toronto police are reaching out to the public for help tracking down the suspects in a fatal stabbing in the downtown core that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man early Sunday.

“We’re interested in talking to anybody that may have a cellphone picture, that may have had a cellphone running,” Det. Scott Wittemore told CTV Toronto.

Investigators are also interested in speaking with cab drivers who may have transported five or six male youths from the area who seemed to be in a rush, Wittemore said.

According to police, two groups of teenagers got into some sort of confrontation while attending an outdoor rave on University Avenue near Queen Street.

The two groups then got into a fight after meeting again near Richmond and York streets at around 2 a.m.

The victim was stabbed during that fight.

Police confirmed to CP24 Sunday evening that the victim has been identified as 19-year-old Rameez Khalid.

The incident occurred as thousands roamed the streets for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, however police say the rave was not part of the all-night art festival.

“As a result of the festivities down here there was an impromptu rave,” Det John Margetson told CP24 at the scene early Sunday morning. “It hasn’t been confirmed but there may have been a confrontation between the deceased and another group of males (at the rave). That group split up, but the two groups met again outside the Opera House (Four Seasons Centre) on Richmond and York streets, a physical confrontation took place and during that confrontation a male appears to have been stabbed.”

Police say they are looking for a group of four to six males who may have been involved in the incident.

A description of the suspects has not yet been released.

“We do have some video that appears to contain the suspects and we will be releasing that information later once we do confirm that they are in fact suspects,” Margetson told CP24.
