Police say a man in his 60s who died from a stab wound to his upper leg in Leaside early Thursday morning may have slipped and fallen onto the knife while taking his recycling out.

The man was found without vital signs on a stairwell outside a residence on Thomas Elgie Drive near Eglinton Avenue and Laird Drive shortly after midnight. He was rushed to hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police had initially classified the man’s death as suspicious, but now say that evidence is pointing towards it being accidental.

Police are not currently looking for any suspects.

The man has not been identified pending notification of next-of-kin.
