Police are searching for a suspect after a suspect attempted to rob woman jogging on a trail in Oakville on Saturday evening.

Halton Regional Police investigators say that at about 4 p.m., a woman was jogging on the McCraney Creek Trails near Pilgrims Way in Oakville.

She was approached by a male suspect who demanded she hand over her valuables. Police said the woman told the suspect she didn’t have anything to give him, and he fled the scene on foot.

The jogger was not injured in the encounter.

The jogger contacted police after returning to her home. She told police the suspect indicated he was carrying a handgun.

Police said officers and canine units entered the trail area in search of a suspect.

A young person similar in appearance to the suspect was detained in the area but later released.

The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion standing five-feet-ten inches tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a grey zippered hoodie, dark pants and a backpack. His face was covered with a white and black bandana.
