Toronto police are warning residents in The Annex and Harbord Village to lock their doors and windows at night amid a recent string of break-ins.

“The Toronto Police Service would like to remind the public to remain vigilant,” police say in a news release.

According to police, there have been a number of incidents in the neighbourhood recently where burglars have entered homes through unlocked doors and windows, particularly ground floor homes.

Police say that in some cases, suspects have entered the homes despite the fact that people were inside.

In particular, police say the thieves have been targeting small, expensive, easy-to-carry-and-conceal items such as cash, wallets, purses, credit cards, identification cards, jewelry and electronic equipment.

Anyone who spots suspicious behaviour in the area is being asked to call 911.
