Rob Ford said he should soon know if and when he can undergo potentially life-saving surgery to remove his cancerous tumours.

The Toronto city councillor told reporters Friday that doctors would be bringing him in for a last-minute MRI at Mount Sinai Hospital this afternoon that was previously scheduled for a later date. His brother Doug Ford confirmed to CP24 on Friday evening that the results of the MRI will not be known until next week.

“It sort of threw me for a curve this morning because I had everything planned out. They just said we are doing it,” Ford said Friday afternoon.

“In one sense, I’m sort of relieved that we are getting the MRI done. I’m going to know the results now. I just want to know when the operation is going to be. I don’t think they are going to wait for May.”

The former mayor was diagnosed with a rare type of soft tissue cancer is September and underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy in an effort to shrink the tumours.

Ford said there is still a possibility that the results of the MRI will determine that surgery is not an option.

“If I can’t have the surgery, it just means they can’t do anything more for me. So we will find out this afternoon what that’s going to be,” he said.

“It’s out of my hands. The unknown is really, it’s tough on us. We don’t know what’s going on. But it is in the good lord’s hand. We’ll see what happens.”
