The City of Toronto says it is unclear how long a downtown stretch of Yonge Street will be closed due to a large sinkhole.

Damage was discovered at around 5 p.m. Friday, which prompted crews to close Yonge Street from College to Alexander streets.

“At this point, it is not known how long it will take to make the repairs and reopen the road,” the city said in a news release issued Monday morning.

“Crews from the City's Transportation Services Division as well as Toronto Water and Toronto Hydro have been working at the site throughout the weekend.”

Only local traffic will be allowed access to nearby streets.
