Southern Ontario could see significant rainfall beginning late Monday afternoon, Environment Canada said in a special weather statement issued Sunday.

The heaviest rain is expected in southwestern Ontario and near Lake Huron, where as much as 15 to 25 millimetres of rain is forecast.

Areas east of Hamilton, including the Greater Toronto Area, are expected to receive 10 to 15 millimetres of rain Monday evening.

The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority is advising that the rain, combined with melting snow, could create dangerous conditions around rivers, streams and low-lying areas.
