The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called to investigate the death of a 58-year-old man in North York early Tuesday morning.

Toronto police 32 Division officers were called to a home near the intersection of Pleasant and Chelmsford Avenues at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The SIU said that shortly after police arrived, a single gunshot was fired. It is not known who fired it.

A man was then taken to Sunnybrook Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case by the SIU.

One Toronto police officer has been designated the subject, and three other officers have been designated as witnesses.

The SIU is called to investigate any interactions between Ontario police and members of the public that results in death, serious injury or an allegation of sexual assault.
