Dropping temperatures and slushy roads made for a slippery commute Friday morning, causing a number of crashes across the Greater Toronto Area.

In Niagara, one person was killed in a crash on the QEW. OPP have shut down a stretch of the highway between Lyons Creek and Bigger Road for an investigation into the fatal collision.

In Vaughan, a number of collisions were reported on Highway 400 between Rutherford Road and Highway 7.

An Extreme Cold Weather Alert was issued by the City of Toronto just before 7:30 a.m.

The weather forecast Friday calls for a mix of sun and cloud with gusty winds. The temperatures will plummet to -11 C today but it will feel like -22 with the wind chill. The temperature will dip again overnight to -16 C.

We may see some snowfall this weekend along with the chilly weather. On Saturday, Environment Canada says there will be a 40 per cent chance of flurries with a high of -5. On Sunday it will be much colder as temperatures fall to a predicted high of -13 C.
