A number of Toronto schools are not yet ready for full-day kindergarten because of ongoing construction to build new classrooms.
Although some of the schools implemented full-day kindergarten in previous years, they needed more space because of increased enrollment. Construction includes installation of cubbies, additions and full renovations.
This year is the final phase of the full-day kindergarten program that been rolling out across the province since 2010.
With the exception of Rosedale Junior Public School, classrooms in other schools are expected to be ready either by the end of September or December. At Rosedale, construction is not expected to be completed till sometime next year because of a delay caused by relocation and re-design.
Affected students will be taught in other rooms within the same schools such as libraries and gyms till the new classrooms are ready.
The 11 schools affected by construction within the Toronto District School Board are:
Rosedale Junior Public School
Albion Heights Junior Middle School
Elmbank Junior Middle Academy
H.J. Alexander Community School
Islington Junior Middle School
Pelmo Park Public School
Perth Avenue Junior Public School
Weston Memorial Junior Public School
