A Toronto elementary school teacher who taught children with special needs has been charged with sexually assaulting one young boy and assaulting another.

The victims were students of White Haven Public School but were not taught by the suspect, Toronto police Det. Const. Warren Breedon told CP24.

Police say the alleged assaults occurred at the home of one of the victims between Sept. 4, 2012 and March 7, 2013.

Investigators believe there may be more victims but say the suspect was not previously known to police.

In the meantime, school officials sent a letter home with students on March 8 informing them of the charges.

The suspect, who has been employed with the TDSB since 2008, is on home duty with pay.

Kearsley Peters, 56, was arrested March 7 in connection with the case.

He is charged with sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual interference and assault.

Peters is scheduled to appear in court again in April, Breedon said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 416-808-4200 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
