Toronto police have arrested a man accused of shooting a 20-year-old who was celebrating his birthday with friends at a private party.

Gaethan Kitadi, 20, was fatally shot in the lobby of the building where he lived with his family on November 10, 2013. The building is located in the Main Street and Kingston Road area.

The young man had been celebrating his birthday at an invitation-only party with friends at another apartment in the building.

He and a few friends were escorting two unknown men out of the building at around 12:30 a.m. when a conflict broke out in the lobby.

Police have said security camera footage shows one of the men firing a shot at Kitadi as he turned to go back inside.

Kitadi was pronounced dead a short time later.

The young man did not lead a lifestyle associated with violent crime, investigators said at the time of the murder.

Police arrested Ajax resident Shane Raheim Chandon, 20, on Jan. 17. He has been charged with second-degree murder.

He was scheduled to make a court appearance Friday morning.
