The Toronto District School Board is considering ways to keep a closer eye on its employees, including putting in a GPS tracking device in work vehicles.

The idea is to keep a close eye on maintenance and construction workers in order to cut down on high maintenance costs. Hours for all construction staff are being standardized, which means no more overlapping shifts.

At a special meeting Wednesday night, trustees voted to receive the staff report, which not only talked about the GPS idea but other cost-saving measures as well.

The report will now be considered at a general board meeting on Sept. 5.

Management said they are aiming to get control of unusually high maintenance costs.
