Toronto Hydro says power has been restored to all but 30 customers in Etobicoke after a pole fire on Ronson Drive.

Hydro crews were at the site of the fire Friday night and Toronto Hydro spokesperson Andrea Corkum said the pole will need to be replaced.

Initially 6,100 residents were without power but Toronto Hydro was able to turn the lights back on for most residents in the area by early Saturday morning.

Affected areas included Highway 401 to Eglinton Avenue and Highway 27 to Jane Street.

The definitive cause of the fire has not been determined but Corkum said salt contamination is one possibility.

"A lot of the time, pole fires are caused by salt contamination that are leftover on roads. So when there is a lot of rain it washes the water and causes some arching and causes an electrical fire," she said.

Toronto Hydro won't know how long it will take to restore power for the remaining residents until crews start the process of replacing the pole, Corkum said.
