The Transportation Safety Board is following up with Porter Airlines after three of the airline’s flights were forced to divert due to problems on-board the aircrafts in separate incidents Sunday.

A Porter flight from Toronto to Washington had to land in Williamsport, Pennsylvania after smoke appeared on the flight deck and in the cabin. Passengers had to wait hours for another flight to come and pick them up. No one was injured.

Another flight en route from Toronto to Sudbury was diverted Sunday evening after smoke appeared. A Porter spokesperson told CP24 that one engine was shut down using proper procedures and that the flight landed safely at Pearson International Airport.

Medical personnel had to attend to two of the passengers on that flight for anxiety and the airline made arrangements for passengers to be put up in hotels until a new flight could be booked.

Another flight from Thunder Bay to Toronto was also diverted to Pearson Airport as a precaution Sunday after the pilot noticed something in the cockpit. The flight landed without incident.

Porter has already asked the aircraft manufacturer to inspect the engines on the planes.

The TSB will follow up with the airline after that inspection has been completed, the agency told CP24 Tuesday.

The TSB said this sort of follow-up is regular protocol when such incidents occur. There is no timeline for the follow-up, the spokesperson said.
