A pair of brazen assaults on TTC vehicles on Wednesday afternoon were reported to Toronto police.

The first incident occurred on board a bus near The Queensway and Southport Street in Etobicoke at around 4 p.m.

Initial reports suggested that a passenger had set a woman’s hair on fire using a lighter, however police say they have not yet been able to confirm what happened.

Speaking with CP24 on Thursday, Const. Caroline de Kloet said that all police know is that a female passenger smelled something burning and then noticed that her hair had been damaged in some way.

Kloet said two males who were sitting behind the woman were then observed exiting the bus at Windermere Avenue by another passenger.

“It is very unclear as to what happened here,” Kloet said.

The second incident occurred on board a bus near Finch Avenue and Alness Street in North York, also at around 4 p.m.

In that incident, a female passenger sprayed another woman in the face with some sort of chemical and then fled the scene.

TTC Spokesperson Brad Ross tells CP24 that the victim did not want to press charges and disembarked the bus before police arrived.
