OSHAWA, Ont. - Two people have been charged with operating a gaming house after police say an illegal poker tournament was raided in Oshawa.
Durham regional police say the raid came Wednesday at the Greek Social Club (on King Street West in Oshawa) after a yearlong investigation.
It's alleged that 15 people were found in the club playing in an organized poker tournament.
Two people were identified by investigators as having control of the premises and were subsequently charged while 13 others were cautioned for being found in a common gaming house and released.
Police say they seized gaming paraphernalia worth about $4,000 including tables, chips, cards, a video gaming machine and posters, and about $1,000 in cash.
Georges Apostolidis, 55, of Courtice, and Angela Visconti, 45, of Bowmanville are charged with being keepers of a common gaming house.
