The TTC says it plans to speak to the operator of a bus that rolled away and struck a truck at Bathurst Station after being left unoccupied on Tuesday night.

A video posted to YouTube shows the bus slowly inching towards a parked TTC truck at around 10 p.m. as a number of bystanders watch. The bus then slams into the back of the truck, knocking off one of its side mirrors in the process.

According to TTC Spokesperson Brad Ross, the incident happened as a result of the driver not applying the brake system properly when he left the bus to use the washroom.

“The bus came into the station, customers got off the bus and the operator simply didn’t apply the proper braking procedure when he got off to use the facilities,” Ross told CP24. “It was very minor damage but to see a bus slowly drifting away without anybody on it in the dark; I imagine it would be pretty frightening for people.”

Ross said that idling buses are usually not put into park, however drivers are responsible for activating an emergency break.

There is also a system in place that prevents buses from moving so long as the doors are open but Ross said the battery on the bus had been reset because it was "giving the operator some difficuilty."

"This is very rare and I think that is why we are talking about it. It is extremely rare. In this case it was probably operator error but we have to look into it," he said. "We are grateful that nobody was on the bus."

Ross would not reveal whether the driver remains on active duty, but he said that TTC officials will be speaking with him to determine his “perspective” before making any decisions on disciplinary action.

The video titled 'Ghost Bus!' had been viewed more than 4,500 times as of early Wednesday afternoon.
