A 29-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the alleged assault of a parking enforcement officer in downtown Toronto last week.

The alleged incident took place at 150 Elizabeth St. at around 8 a.m. Thursday.

According to police, the parking enforcement officer noticed an SUV parked in a no parking zone. The SUV had an accessible parking permit displayed, police said.

The driver of the vehicle handed the officer her driver’s licence and permit, and explained that the permit was for her mother.

During the course of the conversation, the driver allegedly grabbed her licence back, and pulled on the officer’s wrist as she attempted to retrieve the permit.

Police said the driver then fled. She was arrested Friday.

Toronto resident Ashley Nickesha Spence is charged with assault.

She is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 13.
