A 46-year-old woman is facing charges after allegedly stealing an engagement ring that had been left behind at an Oshawa restaurant last week.

The alleged theft occurred at Whisky Johns on King Street West at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police say that a 23-year-old woman had taken her ring off while she ate at then forgot it on the table.

Upon realizing her mistake, police say the woman returned to the restaurant but was unable to locate her ring.

At some point, surveillance camera footage from the restaurant was reviewed.

Police say that footage showed a woman finding the ring and showing it to a male customer before concealing it.

On Friday, police released surveillance camera images of the woman in the hopes that someone would be able to identify her.

Heather Hubert-Smith, of Whitby, was then arrested on Tuesday and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Police say that the ring has not been recovered.
