A 56-year-old woman is dead after she was fatally stabbed by another woman in a brawl at an apartment complex in Hamilton Saturday night.

According to Hamilton police, two men got into a physical altercation inside the building on Macnab Street North, near Burlington Street West, at around 8:30 p.m.

At that point, two women who were known to the men got involved in the fight.

Police allege one of those women then brandished a bat and struck one of the men several times before taking out a knife and stabbing the other woman.

The 56-year-old woman was rushed to hospital, but succumbed to her injuries a short time later.

She has been identified by police as Margaret Elizabeth Steer.

The man was also taken to hospital, but was later released.

Karen Flynn, 43, of Hamilton, is charged with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon in connection with the incident.
