The Yonge subway line will be closed this weekend between Bloor and Lawrence stations due to track work and signal upgrades.

The closure will be in effect all day on both Saturday and Sunday. More than 60 shuttle buses and Wheel-Trans buses will be running instead.

The Toronto Transit Commission is encouraging passengers to use the north-south University-Spadina portion of the subway line as an alternate route.

Additional buses will also be running on the 124 Sunnybrook route from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre to Lawrence West Station. The 52 Lawrence West bus will become westbound at Lawrence West Station.

The TTC says the work is necessary to repair and replace ageing wiring and cabling equipment nearing the end of its life.

“Their frequent failure significantly impacts service,” the TTC said in a written statement.

Regular subway service will resume Monday, Sept. 8 at 6 a.m.
