HAMILTON, Ont. - Police in Hamilton have launched an investigation into the death earlier this week of a six-week-old child.

The boy was brought into a hospital emergency room on Dec. 23 showing signs of medical distress. The baby died the next morning.

Police say an autopsy has found that there were injuries on the baby that are "not consistent with a natural death."

The homicide unit is leading the probe, which is standard practice for sudden deaths of children under five years old.

No other details have been released.
