Police are making a connection between a cache of explosives seized from a Scarborough storage locker and a double murder in Pickering last May.

Durham Regional Police say they became aware of the storage locker full of guns and explosives while investigating the murder, in which the bodies of a 28-year-old Brampton man and a 26-year-old Ottawa man were found in the trunk of a car.

Markham resident John Le was arrested in January and British Columbia resident Vijay Singh was arrested in February in relation to the murders. Each face charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and forcible confinement.

Police have not made any arrests in connection with the weapons and explosives, which were discovered near Kennedy Road and Progress Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police evacuated the area and shut down TTC and GO Transit lines in the area. The Emergency Task Force was called to the scene to investigate and discovered the weapons cache with several pounds of explosives.

Several major Toronto highways were blocked to traffic Wednesday night while police transported the goods to the Leslie Street Spit, where they were diffused just after 11 p.m.

Police are asking anyone with information on either case to contact Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
