OSHAWA, Ont. - Two cousins are now facing 408 criminal charges in connection to thefts of catalytic converters, say police in Durham.

The suspects were identified using surveillance footage from the parking lot of the Whitby GO Transit station.

Catalytic converters are a device attached to the exhaust system of an engine to reduce polluting emissions.

Police say officers observed suspects removing the devices from parked vehicles, taking about one minute to remove the device from a vehicle.

The two were arrested without incident at the Unionville GO station.

Charlie Williamson, 20, of Millbrook, Ont. and Jay Williamson, 24, of Oshawa, Ont. are facing numerous theft-related charges.

Police say thefts have occurred in Halton, Toronto, York and Durham regions.
