TORONTO - Provincial police about an hour's drive north of Toronto are "strongly advising" people to stay off the roads unless it's an emergency.

Police say strong winds and continuing snow squalls off Georgian Bay have made roads very slippery and snow covered.

Visibility in some areas is zero, and there have been numerous collisions and vehicles in ditches -- but no serious injuries.

Several school boards cancelled buses today north and west of Toronto after a flash freeze created icy roads and bitter wind chills.

Some schools are also closed because of the weather, with the wind chill making it feel like it's -20 C.

There have been numerous collisions as drivers cope with slippery roads and blowing snow.
