Two people are dead following separate collisions in Mississauga Monday, Ontario Provincial Police confirmed.

Police said one man has died after a three-vehicle collision occurred at 3:42 p.m. in the westbound express lane of Highway 401 just east of Dixie Road between a tractor trailer, a Nissan Xterra and a Toyota Camry.

Police said the tractor trailer rear ended the Nissan pushing it into the Camry.

Traffic in the area was slowing when the collision occurred.

The male driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead on the scene.

The drivers of the tractor trailer and Camry sustained no injuries.

The name of the man has not been released.

In a second collision, police confirmed that one woman has died following a two-vehicle crash.

Police said the second collision happened at around 3 p.m. when a Dodge Caravan travelling eastbound on Highway 401 near McLaughlin Road hit a cement barrier and rolled.

The van was then struck by a pickup also travelling eastbound.

Five people were transported to hospital with various injuries.

The female passenger of the van succumbed to her injuries.

The name of the woman has not been released.

OPP are currently investigating the circumstances of both crashes.

Highway 401 has reopened.
