HALIFAX - Lawyers for Canadian veterans are in federal court today, arguing that disability benefits for hundreds of former members are being unfairly cut back.
The veterans, who have launched a class action suit, say their long-term disability benefits are being reduced by the amount of their disability pensions.
They say the government is clawing back their disability because it has incorrectly deemed it income.
More than a dozen veterans filled the Halifax courtroom on the first day of the two-day hearing.
The hearing is looking at whether the government has the legal right to claw back the disability benefit and if it is miscalculating the benefit.
Veteran Dennis Manuge launched the lawsuit in 2007 and it was certified by the Federal Court of Canada the following year.
