BRAMPTON, Ont. -- The province's police watchdog says no charges will be laid against an officer who hit an eight-year-old boy with his cruiser.
The Special Investigations Unit says the boy was injured in Brampton on Nov. 26th when he stepped from between parked cars into the path of a marked police cruiser.
The SIU says the boy, who was on his way to a school bus stop, briefly talked to a person in one of the parked cars and walked onto the road when he saw that the school bus had arrived.
The impact threw the child to the ground and he was taken to hospital where he was treated for a broken leg.
SIU director Ian Scott says the Peel officer can't be faulted for his manner of driving, and didn't have an opportunity to avoid the collision when the child stepped into the road.
The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
