As Team Canada basks in the glow of the gold medal win at Monday’s World Junior Hockey Championship final against Russia, an unsportsmanlike move from the game is making the rounds on social media.

A video that surfaced Tuesday from the stands appears to show a Russian player hurling his stick into the stands at the Air Canada Centre in the seconds after Canada sealed a 5-4 win over Russia.

Fans at the stadium that caught the toss on video took to social media with pictures and video of the incident following the game.

“Russian guy, bottom left just whipped his stick into the stands after the final whistle…. Missed us by 2 feet,” spectator Josh Epstein wrote on Instagram along with a photo.

In an email sent to TSN Tuesday evening, International Ice Hockey Federation communications manager Adam Steiss said the organization was aware of the incident.

“(It) has been brought to our attention and we will look into it when we return to the head office in Zurich,” he said.

Toronto police told CP24 that no one has filed a complaint about the incident or reported any injuries.

More than 19,000 fans were at the ACC for Monday night’s final.

Team Canada’s win marked the first time the Great White North has won gold at the tournament since 2009. Russia last won the tournament in 2011.
