Toronto FC's post-season fumbling continued Wednesday with an email advising that playoff ticket refunds would took three to four weeks for credit cards and six to eight weeks for cheques.

The deadline for season ticket-holders to pay for two home playoff matches was Oct. 22. Those tickets were rendered useless when Toronto, which has failed to make the MLSpost-season in eight previous seasons, was thumped 3-0 in a knockout-round playoff game in Montreal last Thursday.

An email advising timing of the refund came out Wednesday. The subject line of the email read: "Thank you for your support this season." When you opened up the message the headline was "Thank You" above a picture of captain Michael Bradley applauding.

The apparent delay in processing refunds was magnified by the fact that the deadline for season ticket-holders to renew their tickets is this Friday. The different time frame for taking in money and giving it back drew fire on social media with "embarrassing," "absurd," "freakin horrible" and "a joke" just some of the fan reaction.

Tom Pistore, vice-president of ticket sales and service for Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, said customers will get playoff refunds quicker than advertised. Timelines in the email were a worst-case scenario, with most credit-card refunds expected to be processed much sooner, he added.

"It's really just a blanket statement that we use to buy ourselves some time but the expectation internally is it takes about two weeks on the credit card," he said.

If the club was notified Wednesday, a credit-card refund could be done by the end of next week, he added.

Delays can be caused if the credit card has expired or addresses have changed. Cheques just take longer, he said, adding that few people pay that way these days.

"We are sensitive that we ask for money in two or three (days) and that we should be returning it in as quickly a fashion as possible," Pistore said.

"I will say we continue to tweak the proper communication messaging at all times," he added.

The playoff ticket refund can be transferred to season ticket renewals.

Blue Jays World Series ticket refunds via credit card have already been taken care of.
