A 33-year-old Whitby man faces a number of charges following a road rage incident in which a woman was punched in the face.

Police say the incident happened after the victim exited a parking lot on Bloor Street West in Oshawa shortly before 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

While stopped at a red light at the intersection of Bloor Street West and Park Road South, the 49-year-old woman’s vehicle was approached by a man who exited a vehicle behind the victim’s.

Police say the man then smashed the driver’s side window of the victim’s vehicle with a hammer and punched her in the face.

Witnesses then saw the man flee the scene in a red Pontiac vehicle with two female passengers.

Details on what, if anything, preceded the alleged assault were not immediately provided by police.

The victim sustained minor injuries, police say. A female passenger also travelling in the vehicle was not injured.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle in question and a suspect a short time later.

A suspect, identified by police as Frantisek Hodonsky, is charged with assault with a weapon, assault, mischief under $5,000 driving while under suspension and offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
