Durham Regional Police say a man has been charged with second-degree murder after the lifeless body of a 25-year-old woman was found inside a home in Whitby.

According to police, a 29-year-old man arrived at an Oshawa police station Saturday morning and told officers that something happened to his girlfriend.

When investigators arrived at a Whitby residence, they discovered the woman’s body with “obvious signs of trauma.”

Police said the man who reported the incident was taken into custody following the grisly discovery.

On Sunday, investigators announced that charges had been laid.

Matthew Coussons, a 29-year-old Whitby man, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the woman’s death.

Police say they will not be releasing the name of the victim at this time.
