A beer giant's communications manager is Mayor Rob Ford's new chief of staff.

Already a member of the mayor's transition team, Amir Remtulla was given a new role within Ford's inner-circle Friday.

Remtulla is currently the senior director of public affairs at Molson Coors Canada and has more than 16 years of experience in corporate and government affairs, the city said in a news release.

"We are very fortunate to have someone of Amir's calibre joining our team," Ford said in a statement. "Having served on my transition team, Amir understands the priorities I have laid out to bring respect for taxpayers to city hall."

Remtulla's predecessor, Nick Kouvalis, is reportedly leaving the position to take up a lead role in Toronto's efforts to contract out garbage collection.

The city said Remtulla will work closely with councillors and staff on four priorities – improving customer service, making city hall more transparent and accountable, reducing the size and cost of government, and the Transit City plan.

Remtulla's first day on the job is Feb. 22.
