GUILDFORD - Canada has kicked off the women's rugby World Cup with a 37-10 win over Scotland.

Vancouver's Mandy Marchak scored two tries for the fourth-ranked Canadians.

Olympic bobsled champion Heather Moyse of Summerside, P.E.I., Barbara Mervin of Peterborough, Ont., and Maria Gallo of Guelph, Ont., added a try apiece.

Anna Schnell of Burnaby, B.C., kicked three converts and two penalties.

Lucy Millard and Lindsay Wheeler scored the tries for Scotland.

Canada's next game in Pool C is Tuesday against Sweden. The three pool winners plus the best runner-up advance to the final four of the 12-team tournament.

New Zealand is the defending champion. Canada finished fourth at the last World Cup in 2006.
