Peel Regional Police have laid charges against a 43-year-old Brampton man in the abduction of his estranged wife, who is still missing.

There are growing concerns about the case because 42-year-old Raquel Junio has been missing for more than 36 hours, despite the arrest of Macdermid Ermacora.

After being questioned by investigators about his alleged involvement in his wife's disappearance, Ermacora was charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement and assault, police said.

Ermacora remains in custody after a brief court appearance in Brampton on Friday.

In an interesting twist, the Crown asked the judge to ask Ermacora to provide authorities with any information he may have about Junio's whereabouts.

"We are asking that if he has any good news, that if she is still alive, now is the time," Crown attorney Steve Sherriff said in court. "This is the time to come to his senses to tell where this lady is. If she's alive it can only get better."

After speaking to duty counsel, Ermacora remained silent and didn't respond to the Crown's plea.

"We will try to locate her with or without her help," Sherriff said.

During the appearance, court was told that Junio was taped "about the head" and forced into a pickup truck before she was driven away. She hasn't been seen since.

Ermacora is scheduled to return to court Wednesday.

Junio and Ermacora have a three-year-old child, who is currently in the care of other family members.

Police tracking truck's movements

Meanwhile, officers spent Friday searching the Brampton area and a property in the Nottawa area, south of Collingwood, that is associated with the suspect's family, but did not turn up anything.

Police officers arrested Ermacora about seven hours after Junio was abducted from her Deerfield Crescent home in Brampton. He was found in his pickup truck in a parking lot near Queen Street and Rutherford Road.

Police are asking anyone who spotted the truck to contact them because they are trying to piece together a timeline of its movements between 1:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Thursday.

The vehicle is described as a black 2003 Ford F350 diesel pickup truck with dual wheels on the rear and five white clearance lights on the roof above the front windshield.

The vehicle also has a large black antenna and a small white antenna on the roof, police said.

Investigators believe the truck may have been in the Bolton and Caledon area, so they're asking residents of those communities to contact them if they saw it.

Junio is Filipino, 5-foot-2, 120 pounds and has shoulder-length black hair and brown eyes.

Police are asking people to call 911 or their local police agency if they have information about Junio's whereabouts. Peel police can be contacted at 905-453-3311, 905-453-2121 ext. 3205 or 2133. People can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
