Monday was a violent day in the GTA, as four stabbings and one shooting took place in the region.

An afternoon shooting inside a Malton shopping mall sent one man to hospital. Peel police say the 18-year-old was shot in the leg while inside Westwood Mall at about 12.30 p.m.

The shooter was seen fleeing towards the Food Basics in the mall, while a second suspect was last seen running towards Coffee Time.

After consulting surveillance video, police say the suspect and victim were seen having a conversation prior to the attack.

The victim is in stable condition in hospital and is not cooperating with the investigation, police say.

Elsewhere, a suspect is in custody following two random stabbings in the city.

A man was stabbed in the chest with a four-inch blade and found on the steps of Northern Public Library near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue.

The victim was bleeding profusely and transported to Sunnybrook Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police say the same suspect allegedly stabbed a man near the Eglinton West  subway station. The second victim is expected to recover.

And early Monday evening a 40-year-old man was found with serious stab wounds in the lobby of a highrise at 1360 Danforth Road.

Police say they believe the stabbing happened on the upper floors of the building.
