MISSISSAUGA - The Special Investigations Unit has determined Guelph police were not responsible for the death of a man who killed himself during a weekend standoff.

Police were called to a disturbance Saturday afternoon and found two men suffering from stab wounds. One died in hospital and the other was treated and released.

A third man went to his basement apartment and would not leave.

After several unsuccessful attempts to persuade 45-year-old Anthony Fonte Sr. to come out, officers went inside Saturday night and found him dead in his apartment.

The SIU says Fonte shot himself.

The agency says its investigation has been closed.
